I Write Jokes on Post-Its While I'm Driving Netflix

As some sort of comedian, I'm constantly on the watch for new materials. I jot lower ideas on napkins, receipts, and perhaps my hand in the event that I don't need anything else helpful. But recently, I've discovered a fresh and unconventional origin of inspiration: Netflix.

Sure, you read that right. I've started writing jokes on Post-Its while I'm watching Netflix. It's an odd mixture, I know. But hear me out and about.

1 night, I was initially feeling particularly uninspired. I had been staring at a new blank page for hours, and nothing was coming in order to mind. Out associated with desperation, I turned on Netflix and even started watching some sort of documentary about typically the history of comedy.

While I watched, I started noticing tiny things that built me laugh. The particular way the narrator pronounced certain words, the editing alternatives, even the music. It was much like a comedy goldmine.

So, I grabbed a new pen and several Post-Its and began jotting down almost everything that tickled the funny bone. In first, it seemed to be just isolated outlines, like " Typically the guy who developed the yo-yo by no means grew up. " But as I kept writing, I started to observe patterns and cable connections.

I realized that several of the jokes I was heading up with were based on misinterpretations, exaggerations, and unexpected twists. These are usually all classic comedic techniques. And instantly, I had some sort of whole new arsenal of material in order to work with.

Since next, I've made watching Netflix a typical part of our creative process. I don't just watch anything, though. I choose shows in addition to movies that I think will ignite my imagination plus give me a fresh perspective.

For example of this, I recently watched the movie " The King's Presentation. " It's a historical drama concerning King George MAN of England, who else struggled with a severe stammer. While the film is definitely not inherently fun, I found personally laughing out loud at the approach the king's speech therapist used joy to help him or her overcome his incapacity.

I also enjoyed watching the stand-up comedy special " Tig Notaro: Happy for you to Be Here. " Notaro is some sort of comedian who has been diagnosed with chest cancer and had a double mastectomy. Her special is usually both hilarious plus heartbreaking, and it inspired me in order to write jokes regarding my own well being issues.

Of course, not really everything I enjoy on Netflix offers me material regarding jokes. But perhaps when I don't come up together with anything specific, that still helps me to think creatively and stay within a comedic mentality.

I know that creating jokes on Post-Its while watching Netflix may sound including a strange means to find ideas. But it functions for me. That helps me to tap into a new different part associated with my brain and to see typically the world in a more humorous way.

And who knows, probably the next moment you're watching Netflix, you'll find yourself inspired to write a joke or even two of your current own.
